Places of worship & its importance

What is the definition of religion?

“Religion is a set of organized beliefs, practices, and systems that most often relate to belief and worship of a controlling force such as a personal god or another supernatural being”

It is safe to say that the majority of the population is involved with religion one way or another. For those who are religious, a place of worship is very important. For Christians, such as myself, having a place of worship (in this case, a Church) is important as it provides the opportunity to feel closer to God, enables me to meet other Christians with the same beliefs and to feel like a part of a community of believers who regularly come together to express their faith. These reasons can be adapted to anyone outside Christianity.

Initially, I had limited knowledge of other religions and their places of worship but through research, I have found out there are a lot.

These are examples of different religion and their places of worship:

Sikhism - Gurdwara is the Sikh place of worship and it means 'door to the Guru'.

Judaism - The Synagogue is a Jewish place of worship.

Islam - Mosque, a place of prostration.

Buddhism - There is no single place of worship. There are a variety and each of them all serve a different purpose.

Temple

Vihara, a monastery for monks or nuns who have devoted themselves to the Buddhist

path.

Shrine

Stupa, a burial mound built to house relics of the Buddha or another important

Buddhist teacher.

Meditation Hall

Christianity - A Church

Shinto - Jinja
